Staff Nurse

Job Description

  1. Administrative
  • Performs shift in charge role, involves in decision making, guides and supports nursing staff in their daily nursing assignments.
  • Takes an active role in the orientation, follow-up and evaluation of new nursing staff in the unit.
  • Acts as facilitator/mentor/preceptor to new hires, float nurses and registered nursing students and interns.
  • Coordinates admissions/transfers/discharges and arrange for continuing outpatient services or home health care services.
  • Evaluates on-going nursing practices and provides suggestions for changes as the need arises.
  • Performs clerical duties like entry of nursing procedural charges to the system, processing documents, and arranging appointments, etc.
  • Performs other duties that maybe assigned by the Head Nurse or Area Manager to
  • Participate in performance improvement projects to improve patient care in the assigned area
  • Perform environmental rounds, report variances or malfunctioning equipment’s to the unit Head Nurse. 
  • Ensure the unit meets all applicable standards
  • Participate in tracers activities and ensure compliance with MOH regulations, JCI and CBAHI standards. 
  • Perform health record documentation audits and implement corrective actions accordingly
  • Monitors and utilizes stock items and other resources in a cost-effective manner. Charge all used consumables, procedures and services as per the RCH policy
  • Perform health record documentation audits and participate in tracers activities
  • Participate in nursing journal clubs, committees, taskforces and councils as appropriate.
  1. Clinical
  • Utilizes nursing process in the provision of nursing care activities.
  • Assess patients and monitors response to interventions; notify physician accordingly and complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Responds effectively in emergency situations and unexpected circumstances, accepting additional workload according to staffing and patient ratio needs.
  • Assess patient utilizing the RCH Pain assessment tool.
  • Assess all patients for Fall Risk utilizing the different Fall assessment tool.
  • Maintains safe custody, administration and documentation of medications, narcotics and infusions according to MOH regulations and international standards.
  • Provides and receives handover of patients, maintains records, reports and other documents, ensuring confidentiality, legibility and accuracy.
  • Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with colleagues as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality nursing care.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and participate in providing effective patient and family education.
  • Encourage patient and family involvement and participation in the plan of care
  • Prepare and explains the procedure to the patient, assemble required consumables and equipment and assist the physician with procedures as appropriate
  • Recognize emergency situations and responds by implementing appropriate nursing interventions as per BLS criteria and RCH policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Ability to build the rapport relationship with the patients.
  • Administer blood and blood products as per RCH policy and attend to competency on blood administration.

 

  1. Quality Improvement
  • Understands and able to explain the nursing department’s nurse sensitive indicators, Key Performance Indicators and accreditation standards.
  • Participates and promotes continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in all nursing quality improvement initiatives including implementation and evaluation of action plans.
  • Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Ensures sustainability of compliance to JCIA and CBAHI accreditation standards.
  • Ensures timely reporting of incidence and accidents
  • Participate in the quality improvement projects; and any new accreditation.

  • Maintains good, professional working relationship with colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

  •  Deployment or float staff according to the unit needs.

 

  1. Professional Development
  • Comply with mandatory trainings and continuing education hours
  • Responsible for identifying own learning needs, seeking educational opportunities and utilizing available resources.
  • Remains current in the latest in nursing practice.
  • Participates in unit and departmental educational activities including preceptor ship to new hired nursing staff.
  • Completes relevant study programs, unit-specific and mandatory nursing competencies within the specified time frames, i.e. BCLS, Fire Safety Training, etc.
  1. Patient and Family Education
  • Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014) including documentation in patient medical record.
  • They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.
  • Involves the patient/families in plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
  • Provides health promotion and health teaching thru methods appropriate to a patients’ developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture and situations.
  • Allots time necessary to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.

Education/Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing/ Diploma in Nursing.
  • Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin.
  • Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
  • Life support training as per specialty.

   Professional Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years post graduate clinical experience in a hospital setting.    (Saudi new graduates are exempted).
  • Current working knowledge in related specialty.
  • Demonstrates safe & correct use of specific unit-based equipment.

Skills

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Be able to speak and understand basic Arabic Language.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good in customer care, able to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledgeable in computer applications.
  • He / She must be creative, flexible and have critical thinking skills.
  • Must have good personal hygiene and be well groomed at all time
