Head Nurse - ER

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, the Head Nurse is responsible for the management of the area and promoting the safety aspects  of both patients and staff in her care; observing RCH  Policies and Procedures  and reflects the Mission, Vision, and objectives of the Nursing Department and hospital in a client-centered manner.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Practice in a manner which is always client centered and fitting to an excellent Private Hospital, reinforcing the impression that the hospital regards the client (patient and family) as the focal recipient of excellent care, respect, friendly communication and professional behavior.

 

 

• Practice in a manner which promotes positive image of nursing and hospital to patients, family and visitors.

 

 

• Take immediate action to resolve or clear any negative impression, complaint or distress expressed in any way by the patient or family.

 

 

• Job Competence

 

 

• Undertakes the overall managerial responsibilities of the unit under his/her control and demonstrates managerial competence  

 

 

• Promote education of patients, patient’s families, and the community.

 

 

 

 

• Ensure a high standard of nursing care is provided in the area.

 

 

• Ensures safety of patients and staff, making certain that the staff is fully aware of safety precautions and regulations.

 

 

• Assists in the orientation of the new recruits.

 

 

• Demonstrates competence in performing CPR in such an event.

 

 

• Assigns duties and coordinates with the Area Manager.

• Responds promptly to complaints and concerns.

 

 

• Evaluates nursing activities, patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service.

 

 

 

 

• Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance with the physician’s instruction.

 

 

• Accompanies physician and keeps informed of special orders concerning patient.

 

 

• Investigates and resolve complaints, or refers unsolved problems to the supervisor.

 

 

• Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Area Manager and/or the Director of Nursing.

 

 

• Teamwork and Communication

 

 

• Collaborates with nursing colleagues to promote optimal utilization of using resources of the department, and provide high quality nursing care.

 

 

• Demonstrates respectful and supportive approach to communication with colleagues.

 

 

• Maintain continuity of care by establishing a cooperative rapport with other colleagues.

 

 

• Use only English or Arabic, speak to Arab patients and families in Arabic only and show a steady improvement in Arabic language skills.

 

 

• Recognizes the needs and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary teamwork towards attaining RNH mission, vision and goal meeting patient’s significant others ‘ physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a dignified manner.

• Collaborate in the department implementation and expansion of learning opportunity skills, development of staff.

 

 

• Monitor duty rota so as provide good area coverage.

 

 

• Attends and participates in departmental meetings, organize his/her own unit meetings and records minutes of the meetings.

 

 

• Provides his/her own professional development as a qualified nurse and continue with his/her own education so as to maintain current trends and practice.

• Support and uphold the philosophy, vision, mission and objectives of the Nursing Department and the Hospital.

 

 

 

 

• Ensure a high standard of individualized patient care is maintained in accordance with the Nursing Policies and Procedures.

• Smile often when appropriate and always demonstrate a caring, positive approach.

 

 

• Comply with the standard of excellence and performs duties necessary to support and achieve accreditation.Know the Key Performance Indicators for the area and strive to improve them. 

 

 

 

• BSN Degree or Diploma  in Nursing

 

 

• Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin.  

 

 

• Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties              

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

A minimum of:

Education:

 

 

• BSN Degree or Diploma  in Nursing

 

 

• Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin.  

 

 

• Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties              

 

 

Experience

 

 

• Minimum of 7(seven) years clinical experience in an acute care hospital.

 

 

• Two years experience in a management role.

 

 

Competencies/Skills:

 

 

• Fluent in spoken and written English.

 

 

• Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

 

 

• Good in customer care, able to work in multidisciplinary teams

 

 

• Knowledgeable in computer applications.

 

 

• He / She must be able to manage projects and should be organized.

 

 

• He / She must be creative, flexible and have critical thinking skills.

 

 

• Must have good personal hygiene and be well groomed at all times.
