Job Description

Duties and responsibilities :

 

 

  • Collect or receive contaminated instruments and equipment from all hospital areas.

 

 

  • Collects and distributes items to and from the units in a timely manner, in the absence of attendant, and correctly documents and reports any defects, losses, or shortage problems

 

 

  • Check all items received and log them in

 

 

 

  • Clean instruments and ensure all solutions and machines used during the process are in compliance of manufacturers’ instructions.

 

 

 

  • Perform routine procedures in Decontamination Area, sort contaminated items and thoroughly clean routine surgical instruments and equipment following manufacturers' instructions and established guidelines for effective bio-burden removal

 

 

  • Decontaminate and sterilize all processing supplies and equipment (reusable equipment and surgical) used for processing by the following sterilization systems: Steam, and hydrogen peroxide.

 

 

  • Answer requests from OR

 

 

 

  • Undertake and ensure that all reusable items are decontaminated and sterilized in accordance with international standards and manufactures instructions.

 

  • Inspect the cleanliness, working functions and conditions of all products requiring sterilization.

 

 

 

  • Assemble and package basic instrument sets and routine procedural trays using the Operating Manual and AAMI recommended packaging materials and techniques

 

 

  • Check product completion against pre-established checklists or product specification

 

 

 

  • Maintain reports of defective equipment and submit to the attention of the immediate supervisor for the appropriate action.

 

 

 

  • Load and unload sterilizer chambers without damage to the integrity of packages, according to Operating Manual procedures and AAMI

 

 

  • Maintain accurate, real time Quality Assurance documentation i.e., run the monitor (including chemical and biological indicator monitors), document all items in loads and ensure that the load logs are accurate and completeand/or instrument/equipment recalls where required should questionable monitor results be detected.

 

 

  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, hospital infection control and safety protocols to adhere to international standards, such as AAMI, APIC, AORN, OSHA and FDA

 

 

  • Ensure the standard precautions related to CSSD are implemented, including wearing of personal protective  equipment (PPE), receiving and handling of contaminated instruments, chemical storage and usage

 

 

 

  • Ensure maintenance and safe operation of equipment.

 

  • Perform other job related duties as required.

 

 

 

  • Report any missing items, and where appropriate, assist in completing  IR

 

 

  • Recommends to the CSSD SUPERVISOR and Area Manager instrument that needs to be condemned and replaced.

 

 

  • Soft wrap and sterilize medical instruments and equipment 

 

 

  • Check all sterilizers to ensure they are working correctly using Bowie-Dick and biological testing

 

 

  • Maintaining detailed records of sterilization cycles inventory, and other relevant information

 

 

  • Verifying the effectiveness of sterilization processes using biological and chemical indicators

 

 

  • Assist in checking supply levels and delivery areas

 

 

  • Serves as a Team Leader as assigned by the CSSD supervisor.

 

 

  • Participates in the ordering of supplies. Ensure adequate stock is on hand and monitors expiration of supplies to avoid wastage. Participates in the evaluation of new products and makes recommendations for purchase.

 

 

  • CSSD specialist taking senior responsibility during the shift .

  • Check inventory on CSSD shelves, order supplies from bulk store & restock shelves

 

 

  • Inspect stored, sterile packaged products for stock rotation and event-related shelf life

 

 

  • Receive and record supplies, new equipment and instruments for processing

 

 

  • Monitor and replenish solutions in metered dispensing washers, ultrasonic units, and other automated cleaning equipment

 

 

  • Ensure that sterilizers and machines are functioning properly according to operating manual.
