Job Description

 

Job Summary

 

Responsible for the implementation of maintenance programs to ensure that all hospital equipment is well maintained including Electronic and Electro-mechanical equipment that is connected to patients or is used to diagnose disease. The equipment handled includes Defibrillators, Cardiac Monitors, Infant Care Centers, Incubators, Infusion Pumps, Audiometers, Electrosurgical Units, Microscopes, Spiro meters, Dental Chairs, Anesthesia Units, etc.  Judgment to consult supervisor when necessary is essential.

 

Subject to on call for medical equipment emergencies.

 

Follows department policies, procedures, and applicable accreditation standards (CBAHI / JCIA).

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the Care Hospitals.     
  • Performs a variety of technical duties, providing preventive maintenance and repairs of electro medical equipment and instruments.
  • Analyses, installs, evaluate and corrects malfunction on medical systems and instruments.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled, on minor and major units, comparable individual devices or assemblies and assures operational safety of the equipment.
  • Sets-up tests procedures of equipment and uses these to measures the performance of newly purchased equipment and reports to product evaluation committee through the Support Services Director.
  • Evaluates demonstration units or on loan equipment for safety and function.
  • Utilizes various measurement techniques to obtain optimum operational efficiency.
  • Calibrates and assure performance of conventional and complex medical systems, made up of several subsystems.
  • Analyzes equipment for failure, faults or malfunctions based on experience and skill, application of test instruments and reference to technical literature and schematics.
  • Conducts safety testing of equipment with analyzers including, but not limited to electrical leakage current analyzer, defibrillator analyzer, etc.
  • Prepares and enter data in logs, reports, forms and equipment records concerning inspections, repairs and equipment condition and operation.
  • Keeps abreast of developing technology in clinical engineering.
  • Follows all departments policies and procedures.
  • Participates in on-going education program developed by the department, e.g. Department Policy and Procedures, Fire Safety, Risk Management, Environmental control.

Skills Description

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:

 

  • Graduate engineer from an accredited university in Biomedical or Electronics & Communication or Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and Special course in Communication or instrumentation or Industrial engineering is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in Biomedical Engineering in an acute care hospital facility.
  • Worked for a 150 bed minimum hospital for two years in Saudi Arabia or internationally.

 

Competencies & skills:

  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Competent management skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and other international safety standards and   regulations.
