Recovery Counselor

A Recovery Counselor for Addiction provides essential support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. This role involves assessing client needs, developing personalized treatment plans, and offering therapeutic support to help clients achieve and maintain sobriety.

Counselor role is crucial in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. It requires a combination of compassion, expertise, and resilience to effectively guide clients through the challenges of addiction and towards a healthier, sober life.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Client Assessment and Evaluation

• Conduct thorough assessments to understand clients’ addiction history, mental health status, and personal circumstances.
• Utilize standardized tools and interviews to evaluate clients’ readiness for change and treatment needs.

2. Individualized Treatment Planning

• Develop personalized treatment plans based on clients’ specific needs, goals, and preferences.
• Collaborate with clients to set realistic and achievable recovery goals. 

3. Therapeutic Support

• Provide individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing).
• Facilitate support groups and peer recovery meetings to encourage shared experiences and mutual support.

4. Education and Skill Development

• Educate clients and their families about addiction, recovery processes, and coping strategies.
• Teach life skills and coping mechanisms to help clients manage triggers and prevent relapse.

5. Case Management

• Coordinate with healthcare providers, social services, and other support systems to ensure comprehensive care.
• Monitor clients’ progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to address emerging issues or setbacks.

6. Crisis Intervention

• Respond to clients in crisis situations with appropriate interventions and support.
• Develop and implement crisis management plans to ensure clients’ safety and well-being.

7. Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress.
• Prepare reports for internal use and for external agencies as required.

8. Professional Development

• Stay current with developments in addiction treatment through ongoing education and professional development.
• Participate in supervision and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or counselling.

Experience

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional counsellor preferable in addiction & mental health centres

• Empathy and Compassion: Ability to understand and empathize with clients’ struggles and provide non-judgmental support.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and other professionals.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
• Resilience: Ability to cope with the emotional demands of working with individuals facing significant challenges
