Pharmacy Supervisor

Job Summary

• Responsible for safe and effective pharmaceutical service for inpatient, I.V. Admixture and Outpatients, and all staff involved with direct patient care and patient needs with established policies and procedures including forecasting supplies and equipment, and adequate and safe storage of medications.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
• Supervise all the activities and tasks performed in his/her section.
• Ensures appropriate levels of all supplies utilized by the Department of Pharmacy Services. Necessary drugs and other supplies will be available to supported areas. There will be a minimum level of outdated items and shortages.
• Ensures that a cost effective supply system is operated with costs of goods versus revenue at an acceptable ratio. Ensure that drugs and supplies are purchased at the most advantageous costs and that pricing information is current.
• Ensures that financial reports for the hospital and management firm is promptly prepared, corrected and verified.
• Ensures compliance with the accreditation standards nationally and internationally.
• Ensures that the hospital formulary and charge masters with the actions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and price adjustments are updated promptly and accurately.
• Ensures that proper supervision of subordinates will produce a cost-effective, organized, efficient supply area having good employee morale.
• Meets current objectives and positions the organization for future growth. Completes daily tasks and assignments and processes large volumes of work associated with the operation of the department.
• Builds positive relationships based on respect for others. Demonstrates a helpful positive attitude.  Maintains effective communication with peers, medical staff, patients, visitors, and families.
• Meets and exceeds expectations of internal and external customers. All organizational and departmental standards regarding quality of performance are met.  Demonstrates a strong commitment to confidentiality.  Participates in quality improvement programs as directed.
• Standard precautions will be observed in order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
• Reports any accidents and injuries to supervisor immediately and reports any pre-existing conditions.
• Complies with relevant regulations and standards and policies governing safe workplace environment. (JCIA, CBAHI etc.)
• Effectively participate on an interdisciplinary team or committee.
• Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014) including documentation in patient medical record.
• They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.

• Involves the patient/families in plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.

• Provides health promotion and health teaching thru methods appropriate to a patients’ developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture and situations.

• Allots time necessary to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.

• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities.

Qualifications:

A minimum of:

     Education:

• Required

            B.S. Pharmacy Graduate; Master Degree is preferred.

            Licensed Pharmacist, according to laws and regulations;

Experience:

A minimum of:

• Five (5) years experience as a Pharmacist in a Pharmacy of a large acute care hospital;
• Two (2) years experience on supervisory level.

• Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
• Problem solving ability and analytical thinking preferred.
• Customer service skills; exhibits professionalism, effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Fluency in verbal and written English for Arabic and Non-Arabic speakers.
• Computer literate
